Monotype's metal Bembo was a god among fonts, but the first popular digital version was mediocre. In the past few years many people have tried to get it right, but none of the new ones are both good and on the open market. Aetna is too spindly and poorly spaced. Monotype's new Bembo Book is too chubby and poorly spaced. Matthew Carter made a promising one but signed it over to Yale. Edward Tufte made a very good one, perhaps the one we need, but doesn't distribute it because he's "[http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0000bm&topic_id=1|not in the type distribution business so it will not be made available]", the jerk. So we're still waiting.
